About the course

Constipation is one of the most common and overlooked conditions in residential care—yet it has a direct impact on resident comfort, staff workload, and facility operations. This course is designed specifically for Residential Care Facility for the Elderly (RCFE) administrators and staff, focusing on practical, non-medical strategies to prevent, recognize, and respond to constipation in older adults. Participants will learn how daily care practices—including hydration, nutrition, mobility, toileting routines, and staff communication—affect bowel function and overall resident well-being. The course emphasizes the administrator’s role in developing systems, supporting staff performance, and reducing preventable complications such as fecal impaction and hospital transfers. Through real-world scenarios and operational examples, this course provides actionable strategies that can be implemented immediately within residential care settings. This course is for educational purposes only and does not provide medical or legal advice. Content is intended to support best practices in residential care settings and does not replace clinical judgment or physician direction.
